Hezbollah Lawmaker Affirms Military Court Indictment Violates National Pact: Defendants Were Performing a National Duty

Hezbollah responded to the indictment issued by the Government Commissioner to the Military Court against a number of Lebanese citizens in the case of the truck carrying explosives on Dhahr Al-Baydar highway.

Member of the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc, Dr. Hussein Hajj Hassan, issued a statement affirming that the prosecution lacks the most basic rules of the National Pact, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Charter, and numerous Lebanese laws—”all of which guarantee the legitimate rights of any resistance against occupation.”

“The detainees and the remaining defendants were performing a national duty in defense of their country, state sovereignty, and to protect the Lebanese people. For this, they deserve to be honored rather than put on trial, and they have no connection to all the false accusations issued by parties inside and outside the authority.”

Regardless of the local and external political targeting that has accompanied this case, relying on certain articles of the Penal Code for this decision is completely disproportionate to the mission the defendants were carrying out. This accusation is unfair and unjust, and its details are subject to well-known political dictations. These resistance fighters were not in a position of compromising the security and safety of the state; rather, they are confronting the Israeli enemy, which threatens Lebanon’s existence through its continued occupation and the daily crimes of assassination, bombing, and destruction it practices against our country and our people.
