The Media and Public Relations Department of the General Directorate of Civil Defense stated: “At approximately 3:00 AM today, a five-story residential building collapsed in the Al-Qubba area of Tripoli’s Al-Jadeed Street, trapping several residents under the rubble. Civil Defense teams immediately launched search and rescue operations and conducted a field survey at the site. They rescued a young girl who was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. The search continues for the remaining family members.”
The General Directorate stressed the importance of evacuating the collapse site and urging citizens to stay away to allow personnel to carry out their tasks, utilize specialized equipment, and expedite rescue operations.
Media sources indicated that the building had been evacuated yesterday after serious cracks appeared in its structure. However, the trapped family had refused to leave due to a lack of alternative housing.
President Joseph Aoun followed up on the collapse and instructed Interior Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Hajjar to direct all relevant authorities—particularly the Civil Defense, the Red Cross, and the Tripoli Municipality—to work on removing the rubble and rescuing the residents, calling upon the army if necessary. He also requested an investigation into the causes of the collapse to determine responsibility.
