Hezbollah MP Raad: Resistance’s Legitimacy Foundation of All Legitimacy

Hezbollah MP Mohammad Raad during an interview with AL-Manar (August 2025).

Member of Hezbollah’s Loyalty to Resistance bloc MP Mohammad Raad denounced calls for direct negotiations with the Israeli enemy, accusing their proponents of undermining Lebanon’s sovereignty, legitimizing the occupation, and seeking to subordinate the Lebanese government to Israeli interests.

In a statement on Monday, MP Raad criticized official and unofficial parties for endorsing negotiations on the enemy’s terms, warning that such positions were being cloaked in “deceptive concern for stability and demands for a monopoly on weapons imposed by the occupation.”

The senior Hezbollah lawmaker also condemned statements targeting the Resistance, accusing their authors of seeking to undermine its role, deny its national achievements, question its legitimacy, and attack its members and popular base.

He described these positions as aligned with US directives, accusing Washington of “partnering with the Israeli enemy and supporting its terrorism and crimes against humanity.”

“Resistance is the necessary and legitimate national defense option for Lebanon,” PM Raad stressed, warning that attempts to “demonize and denigrate it are a national and moral crime,” driven by an imported Zionist ideology.

He further accused those advocating such positions of “impudently disregarding the National Accord Document and yielding to foreign pressure” aimed at pushing Lebanon toward the Israeli enemy and its sponsors and agents.

Raad said these pressures sought to drive Lebanon toward violating its Constitution and applicable laws, embracing “projects of surrender and normalization with the occupier, and sacrificing national sovereignty in favor of Israeli expansionist project in Lebanon and the region.”

“The legitimacy of resistance is the foundation and origin of all legitimacy,” MP Raad declared, adding that denying the right to resist amounted to “an attack on life itself.”

He concluded that debating the details without first recognizing this fundamental right constituted “a betrayal of the nation and its citizens.”
