Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has ridiculed US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent over Washington’s predictions of Iran’s economic collapse, pointing to rising US inflation and a series of deadlines that passed without the forecast outcomes materializing.
“Let’s ‘play the percentages.’ Not in odds, but in the % increases,” Ghalibaf wrote on X on Wednesday, linking to a CNN report on rising US inflation.
He cited previous warnings by Bessent that Iran would have “nothing in 2 weeks,” that its oil wells would “explode in 3 days,” and that an “Economic D-Day” would bring decisive economic consequences, declaring that all those deadlines had passed.
Let’s "play the percentages". Not in odds, but in the % increases. https://t.co/c0kZYjGFyS btw, “They have nothing in 2 weeks,” “Wells explode in 3 days,” “Economic D-Day” all passed. Time’s relative; turns out it could be irrelevant. Nobel in Practical Physics for Treasury? https://t.co/xsqmPu1Ld8

“Time’s relative; turns out it could be irrelevant. Nobel in Practical Physics for Treasury?” Ghalibaf added sarcastically, taking aim at the US Treasury’s economic pressure campaign against Tehran.
The CNN report cited by Ghalibaf showed US annual inflation rising to 3.7% in September from 3.4% in August, exceeding economists’ expectations. Monthly consumer prices rose 0.6%, while gasoline prices climbed sharply amid the energy shock associated with the war on Iran.
