The Iranian National Security Council issued a statement regarding the recent terrorist attacks in the country, asserting that comprehensive intelligence and monitoring, along with a series of implemented security measures, have led authorities to conclude that following the twelve-day war and Iran’s strong response, the enemy has realized that military force alone cannot subdue the Iranian nation.
The statement explained that the exceptional social cohesion and unity of the Iranian people constituted a fundamental pillar of the nation’s victory during that period and a cornerstone of the armed forces’ response to the aggressor.
It added that, consequently, the United States and the Zionist entity altered their tactics, now targeting this social cohesion in an attempt to undermine the national will.
The Council stated that following peaceful protests by merchants and professionals, the President listened to their representatives and instructed police restraint towards peaceful gatherings, issuing directives to address economic concerns.
However, according to the statement, forces orchestrating chaos worked to derail these gatherings, transforming protests into violent acts in various cities between December 29, 2025, and January 6, 2026, causing harm to people and property.
The statement added that on January 7 and 8, 2026, with the aim of destabilization through extreme violence, organized armed attacks targeted public places, intent on bloodshed and destruction. These multiple terrorist acts resulted in extensive damage to infrastructure, including markets, shops, banks, mosques, medical centers, and transportation.
The terrorists committed atrocities akin to those of ISIS, including burnings, beheadings, stabbings, and widespread firearm use. This led to the martyrdom of 2,427 innocent civilians and security personnel out of a total of 3,117 killed in these events.
According to available documents, a major and heinous crime was committed during these two days, supported by the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran and targeting the Iranian people.
The statement concluded by affirming that, with God Almighty’s help, the insightful stances of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the sacrifices of security forces, and the epic public presence on January 12, 2026, the enemy failed to expand chaos and insecurity. National cohesion and unity, supported by conscious and courageous citizens, imposed a new defeat on Iran’s enemies.
