Addressing members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Lebanon, President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun reaffirmed Tuesday the Lebanese Army’s operational control south of the Litani River, and stressed Lebanon’s commitment to the November 27, 2024 cessation of hostilities agreement.
On the same day, the prime minister Nawaf Salam considered that the Lebanese state control of the South Litani area opposes the period which goes back to 1969.
Any observer who reads those remarks may think that the Lebanese Army has deployed troops across South Lebanon after a supposed Israeli withdrawal and halt of attacks. However, facts say that the Israeli occupation is still biting several kilometers of Lebanon’s south border area, attacking various Lebanese towns every now and then, detaining around 20 Lebanese citizens, and preventing the reconstruction of the buildings and infrastructure it had destroyed.
In face of this Zionist barbarism, the Lebanese executive authorities have showed the maximum leniency in implementing the US dictates which reflect the enemy’s intentions and plans.
The ceasefire stipulated that the Lebanese army deployment in South Lebanon synchronizes with the Israeli withdrawal from the five occupations position which expanded later to become eight. It also guaranteed the halt of the Zionist attacks, the release of the Lebanese prisoners, and the return of the Lebanese civilians to their villages with the start of the reconstruction of their houses.
However, the Lebanese authorities ordered the Army to deploy units in South Lebanon and take exclusive control of weapons without any Israeli step in return. Even the ceasefire monitor committee has failed to oblige the Israeli enemy to stop its attacks and withdraw troops. The US pressures have also pushed Lebanon to make a further concession represented by appointing a civilian member in the Lebanese delegation, which is considered a huge leap towards normalization of ties with the enemy.
The Zionist command viewed the Lebanese concessions as a signal of weakness and escalated attacks on South Lebanon and Bekaa.
In a renewed escalation underscoring the Israeli enemy’s repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli warplanes carried out a series of heavy airstrikes targeting residential buildings in the southern Lebanese towns of Ansar, Kharayeb, Qennarit, Jarjouh, and Kfour, causing potential destruction and leaving 19 injuries.

President Joseph Aoun blamed, in a statement, ‘Israel’ for the consequences of its attacks on South Lebanon.
Lebanese Army stated that the Israeli attacks on South Lebanon comprise a blatant violation of ceasefire and UNSC Resolution 1701.
The Lebanese statements have failed to provide the innocent civilians in South Lebanon with protection from the Zionist enemy which is taking the advantage of the Lebanese hesitation. So, what will the Lebanese government do in case the Israeli enemy insisted on launching barbaric attacks?
