An official familiar with the talks confirmed to Reuters that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his team met with Qatari mediators in Doha yesterday evening.
According to the official, Araghchi received the US response to the “seven-day proposal” while in Doha and will discuss it in Tehran today.
The official explained that “the document currently under negotiation outlines a seven-day plan to build trust and return to an enhanced version of the memorandum of understanding.”
He revealed that “the main point of contention between the US and Iran concerns the sequencing of steps, rather than the elements of the seven-day plan itself.”
Araghchi had previously indicated that he met again with Qatari mediators to discuss ideas they would present to the US side, as part of paving the way for the fulfillment of Iranian conditions.
He explained that there were conditions previously affirmed by the Leader of the Revolution and the Republic, Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei, stressing that “their implementation is essential for reopening the Strait of Hormuz; the Iranian delegation’s mission was to convey these conditions to the US side and apprise other nations and the international community of them.”
He noted that the proposed plan spans seven days, stating: “Under the seven-day plan, the Strait of Hormuz would be opened on the sixth day, and on the seventh day, we would resume negotiations to reach a final agreement.”
