Lebanese Democratic Party Leader Talal Arslan on Monday criticized the Lebanese authorities’ handling of the second anniversary of the martyrdom of late Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, denouncing sectarian hostility and official disregard for the occasion.

In a post on X, Arslan said the anniversary was marked by “hostility, resentment, and sectarian, religious, and racist animosity,” stressing that his criticism was rooted in humanitarian and religious considerations rather than political affiliation.

He questioned whether Lebanon had “abandoned all our authentic traditions and customs to gloat over death,” calling for respect for the sanctity of death and the country’s national causes above political calculations.

Arslan also criticized the authorities for what “submissive and humiliating” statements concerning the anniversary, arguing that such conduct was incompatible with national dignity.

“When the enemy acknowledges the great and exceptional value of a figure like His Eminence Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, is it fitting for us to treat such an event with flippancy, disregard, and arrogance?” Arslan asked.

He concluded that “nations are not built on shamelessness and immorality,” nor can a state establish its authority through subservience or protect the homeland through humiliation.
