Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged the European Union to play a constructive role in international developments and avoid double standards and appeasement in the face of US bullying, warning that such approaches undermine international peace and security.
The top Iranian diplomat made the remarks during a meeting with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Tuesday on the sidelines of the annual UN General Assembly session in New York.
The two sides discussed the latest regional and international developments, including developments related to the Ukraine conflict, the situation in West Asia amid the continuation of US acts of aggression and economic warfare against Iran, and the consequences of aggressive US unilateralism for international peace and security, Iranian media reported.

Araghchi stressed the importance of a constructive role by the European Union in international developments and called on the bloc to refrain from approaches based on double standards and appeasement in the face of US bullying.
The Iranian FM also highlighted Iran’s practical commitment to diplomacy as a means of achieving peace and security in the region, saying repeated US breaches of commitments have been the sole factor disrupting diplomatic processes.
He said the European Union had unfortunately, on numerous occasions, chosen appeasement in the face of US bullying instead of adhering to principles it claims to uphold, including the rule of law and respect for human rights.
Araghchi stressed that such an approach would in no way contribute to international peace and security.
The two sides also exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest.
