Parliament speaker says Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until Iran’s rights are recognized and US commitments are fulfilled
Iran’s messages and conditions have been explicitly conveyed to the United States through intermediaries, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said on Sunday, stressing that the Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until Iran’s rights are recognized and US commitments are fulfilled.
Addressing a parliamentary session, Qalibaf said Iran’s positions on the diplomatic front are “completely clear, rational and non-negotiable,” adding that intermediaries have clearly conveyed Iran’s messages and conditions to the other side.
“The enemy knows very well that the path of deception and one-sided imposition is closed,” Qalibaf said, stressing that “until these conditions are met, the legitimate rights of the Iranian nation are recognized, and the Americans’ commitments are implemented, there will be no opening for a return to the previous conditions for negotiations or the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.”
Resistance Guarantees Security, Shapes New Regional Order
The Parliament speaker said the Iranian people’s resistance not only guarantees Iran’s security but will also help shape a new order in the region and the world, creating opportunities in the economic and strategic spheres.
He noted that Iran has demonstrated over the past seven months that it is not helpless in the face of aggression.
‘We Must Both Fight and Negotiate’
Qalibaf rejected the notion that Iran must choose between war and negotiations, saying, “We believe that the dichotomy of war or negotiations is not real; rather, we must both fight and negotiate.”
He explained that Iran should fight “reasonably and with strength” when necessary and negotiate “with power and rationality at the appropriate time.”
This approach, he added, means using the country’s full military capabilities when necessary to push back the enemy and inflict “deadly blows,” while employing diplomacy after achieving significant battlefield gains and when the adversary is weakened—to consolidate those gains.
Old US-Led Order Has Collapsed: Qalibaf
Qalibaf further said the old US-led order in West Asia has collapsed and that the region’s Muslim countries should establish a new order.
