BRICS leaders have firmly rejected unilateral sanctions that contravene international law and the United Nations Charter, according to a joint declaration issued at the group’s summit.
The declaration called for a multilateral approach to managing the international order, based on respect for diverse views and positions on critical global issues.
The group’s leaders renewed their full commitment to the peaceful resolution of international disputes and crises through dialogue and diplomatic consultation.
BRICS condemned the violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and called on Israel to withdraw from occupied Lebanese territory.
On security and regional issues, the BRICS summit declaration reaffirmed the leaders’ commitment to combating all forms and manifestations of terrorism, while stressing their unwavering support for preserving the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.
The statement said BRICS leaders were concerned about deliberate attacks on nuclear facilities subject to International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards.
BRICS countries also underscored the importance of joint efforts to maintain the smooth flow of global trade and ensure the stability of supply chains and energy flows amid mounting challenges and disruptions facing the global economy.
The declaration was issued at the annual BRICS summit in the Indian capital, New Delhi, amid escalating global and regional crises and with the participation of leaders and representatives of member states.
The summit is expected to feature extensive discussions on trade, energy, and regional security, as well as efforts to strengthen cooperation in technology and artificial intelligence, against the backdrop of growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their direct repercussions on global energy markets.
The BRICS forum was established in 2009 as a platform bringing together major emerging economies—Brazil, Russia, India, and China—with South Africa joining later. The grouping was created to promote an international balance beyond blocs dominated by the United States and Western countries, such as the Group of Seven, before expanding to include additional countries, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
