Iran has rejected US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s allegations of Iranian interference in Yemen, stressing that the Ansarallah movement is an independent Yemeni actor that makes its own decisions and does not operate as a proxy for any country.

In a post on X early Thursday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei said, “Marco Rubio’s lies cannot replace facts. Ansarallah is an independent Yemeni actor that makes its own decisions; it takes orders from no one and acts as nobody’s proxy.”

Baqaei said the roots of regional instability should instead be traced to US military interventions and hegemonic policies in the region.

“The roots of instability in the region lie in US military interventions and hegemonic policies,” he wrote. “If Washington genuinely wanted peace, it would take one simple step: end its malign and destabilizing interventions in our region.”

The Iranian diplomat also rejected the idea that peace in Yemen could be achieved through military pressure or external intervention.

“Peace in Yemen cannot be imposed through bombs and external pressure,” Baqaei said. “It begins with genuine negotiations based on the roadmap agreed by the parties.”
