Trump Declares US “Winning” Iran War, Floats Renaming Hormuz “Trump Strait”

Donald Trump speaks to the media as he departs after meeting with Republican senators at the U.S. Capitol, on June 24, 2026 in Washington, D.C.

US President Donald Trump has declared that Washington is “winning” its war with Iran and claimed the United States now controls the Strait of Hormuz—before suggesting the strategic waterway should be renamed the “Trump Strait,” apparently as a fitting reward for victory already being declared.

Speaking at a Republican midterm convention in Dallas on Wednesday, Trump said oil prices would fall “as soon as we win the war with Iran,” insisting: “We’ll win it. We’re winning it.”

Trump then turned to the Strait of Hormuz, claiming, “We control the Hormuz Strait. I think we should call the Hormuz Strait, we should call it the Trump Strait. I should get something out of it.”

“I’ll have an announcement—we’ll call it the Trump Strait,” he added, confidently predicting that “the Iranian leadership will be thrilled with that.

Trump also claimed that Iran is “falling apart” and said the country had been “the bully of the Middle East for 51 years,” but “they’re not the bully anymore.”

Despite ‘declaring victory’, Trump warned that the US could strike Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain site after reports of “a little movement” there, saying Washington was monitoring activity at the site.

“We know exactly what’s going on,” Trump said, warning Tehran “not to get cute” or face a heavy US strike.

“We will have to hit them very hard. We have no choice, right?” he said, reiterating Washington’s stated justification for the war: “We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon. It’s very simple.”
