Iran will designate a new restricted zone outside the Strait of Hormuz in the coming days, with vessels entering the area without coordination with Tehran to face sanctions, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said.
In a televised interview Sunday night, Rezaei said the zone would begin at the US Navy’s blockade line and extend into parts of the Persian Gulf toward the region’s loading ports.
He warned that vessels approaching the strait from either direction and entering the designated area without coordination would be placed on an Iranian sanctions list, with potential consequences for their insurance coverage and future passage.
Rezaei also said the Strait of Hormuz is “completely closed and under the control of the armed forces,” dismissing US President Donald Trump’s assertion that the waterway remains open as a “big lie.”

According to Rezaei, more than 100 vessels carrying over 100 million tons of cargo previously passed through the strait each day. He said that figure has now fallen to seven or eight vessels carrying essential goods for Iran.
“The Americans are trying to smuggle five to six vessels through at great expense, but these ships are usually struck,” Rezaei said, adding that Iran has refrained from sinking them because their oil cargoes could cause environmental damage.
He also announced that Iran and other parties will sign a memorandum in the coming days on establishing a new corridor through the Strait of Hormuz. Entry and exit through the corridor, he said, would be fully managed by Iran.
Rezaei stressed that Tehran would make no commitment to reopen the strait unless Washington ends its threats and aggression and restores Iran’s trust.
Iran Tested Anti-Ship Missile Over US Warship
Rezaei also claimed that Iran recently tested a new anti-ship missile over a US Navy vessel, saying the test took place 48 hours earlier.
“For the first time, we tested our anti-ship missile above an American warship,” he said. “This special missile created hell for the Americans, and they fled.”
He said US Central Command could not conceal the incident, describing it as a warning that the American naval blockade remains vulnerable.

Rezaei further claimed that Trump had initially planned a 10-day war against Iran but abandoned the plan on its first day after Iranian attacks targeted US support bases and troop positions, including the Titan base in Jordan and sites in Erbil.
The SNSC secretary also said Iran reserves the right to respond to a US attack on a wedding ceremony in Sirik.
Regarding Lebanon, Rezaei said that despite temporary Israeli advances in parts of the country, Hezbollah continues to hold the upper hand and that public anger would prevent Israel from maintaining a lasting presence there.
He rejected reports of shortages inside Iran, saying oil exports are continuing, revenues are returning to the country and strategic reserves of basic goods remain stable.
Rezaei said Washington’s longstanding objective has been to turn Iran into a dependent state stripped of its capabilities, arguing that Iran had thwarted that strategy through national unity around its leadership.
