Iranian Foreign Minister Welcomes Omani Counterpart in Tehran

Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Tuesday at the Foreign Ministry building in Tehran and held talks with him in the presence of an Omani delegation, according to Mehr News Agency.

The Omani Foreign Minister arrived in Tehran at the head of a high-level delegation and was received by Minister Araqchi.

Joint Statement

In a joint statement following the talks, the two sides said their consultations focused on the importance of resuming navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in a manner that safeguards the sovereignty and rights of both countries.

The ministers discussed a phased framework intended to provide a practical and workable basis for addressing the situation in the strategic waterway. The proposal includes establishing a temporary joint corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a joint project to clear the waterway of mines.

The statement said technical negotiations would continue toward an agreement on a permanent corridor and future arrangements for managing the Strait of Hormuz, including mechanisms for information exchange and the management of navigation and navigational and security services.

The two sides also stressed the importance of holding discussions with countries bordering the Gulf waters and reaffirmed the need to comply with international law and respect the sovereign rights of coastal states.
