Israeli Forces Escalate Attacks on Residential Areas in Lebanon’s Western Bekaa

In a renewed escalation underscoring the Israeli enemy’s repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement, the occupation army targeted two residential buildings in the town of Sohmor—one located less than 300 meters from a public primary school, placing civilians, particularly children, at immediate risk—and two residential homes in Mashghara, in Lebanon’s Western Bekaa region.

Mayor Affirms Civilian Sites Targeted

Sohmor Mayor Mohammad Al-Khishn stressed that the threats issued by the Israeli occupation army were directed solely at civilian properties with no connection whatsoever to any military activity. He noted that the warnings lacked precise identification of the alleged targets, neither in location nor nature, intensifying fear and uncertainty among residents.

Speaking to Al-Ahed News, Al-Khishn said the municipality moved swiftly upon receiving the threats, implementing urgent precautionary measures, alerting residents, and assessing the situation on the ground to prevent potential loss of life.

Al-Khishn said immediate contact was made with the Lebanese Army through the established coordination mechanism. The army was requested to conduct on-site inspections of the locations Israel claimed were targets. Despite this, Israeli occupation forces proceeded to strike the two buildings, disregarding all such efforts.

“I am absolutely certain these buildings contain nothing of the sort the enemy claims. As head of the municipal council, I take full responsibility and affirm that this is a direct threat to residential neighborhoods and civilian safety, with no military justification whatsoever.”

Humanitarian Impact and Displacement

The mayor warned that the attacks forced many residents to flee, while others stayed just meters from the targeted sites, causing severe psychological and social strain on the town.

Al-Khishn called for an end to attacks on populated villages and respect for international laws protecting civilians and urged the Lebanese government to fulfill its duty to protect citizens, affirming that Sahmar’s municipality remains in constant coordination with authorities to safeguard residents.

More Brutal Attacks

Later on Thursday, the Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes targeting two houses in Mashghara in the Western Bekaa.

In parallel developments, Al-Manar correspondent in south Lebanon reported that Israeli drones dropped sound bombs on the western outskirts of Aita Al-Shaab and the Al-Masarib neighborhood of the border town of Adaisseh. The attacks occurred as the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL were dismantling explosive devices previously planted by Israeli forces in two homes earlier that morning, coinciding with the demolition of a house in the center of Kfar Kila.

Earlier, Israeli forces dropped explosive devices on internet transmission equipment installed on the rooftops of two homes in Blida and fired machine-gun bursts toward the outskirts of Houla and Markaba from an enemy position in the occupied town of Hunin.

These actions further highlight the ongoing pattern of Israeli aggression and systematic violations against Lebanese territory and civilian life.
