Civil defense teams from the Islamic Health Authority and the Lebanese Civil Defense, with the support of local residents and the assistance of a Lebanese Army helicopter, managed to control and completely extinguish the fires that broke out in the forests of the Western Bekaa, Kfarhouna, and Toumat Niha, after extensive and continuous field efforts that lasted for hours.
The fires erupted as a result of Israeli attacks and shelling targeting the area, leading to the burning of vast areas of forests and mountainous regions. The difficult terrain and strong winds hampered the firefighting efforts at several points, hindering the teams’ access to some of the burning hotspots.
A Lebanese Army helicopter participated in the firefighting operations, conducting reconnaissance flights over the burning areas and contributing to aerial firefighting efforts. This was done in conjunction with the extensive efforts of the civil defense teams on the ground to reach the various hotspots, contain the fires, and prevent their spread.
After hours of continuous work and heightened field readiness, the teams were able to extinguish the fires and bring them under complete control. Monitoring operations continue to ensure that there are no remaining hotspots that could reignite the fires.
Controlling the fires marks the end of arduous field efforts by various firefighting teams in confronting the repercussions of the Israeli aggression and protecting as much as possible of the forest and environmental wealth in the region.
