Iran holds talks with Oman on establishing a new shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said on Sunday, adding that the current situation in the strategic waterway cannot return to what it was before the war.
Baqaei said US threats against Iran were “nothing new,” stressing that Tehran acts in accordance with its national interests and is not influenced by pressure or threats. He warned that Washington was fully aware Iran would respond forcefully to any military action against it.
He said negotiations with Oman over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz were not new, describing them as bilateral talks unrelated to any third party. He added that both countries were committed to reaching a mechanism to regulate the passage of vessels through the waterway.

Baqaei said Iran and Oman are currently discussing a transit route that would run through neither the northern nor the southern corridor, emphasizing that any arrangement must safeguard the shared interests of both countries.
He also accused the United States of preventing maritime traffic from returning to normal within the agreed timeframe and launching attacks on Iran before that period had expired. He said Washington, in coordination with some regional parties, had imposed a southern shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, which he affirmed is unsafe.
Baqaei added that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is separate from Iran’s negotiations with Oman, saying any closure of the waterway is linked to the United States’ failure to honor its commitments.
