The Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met on Tuesday in Washington at the White House with the US counterpart Donald Trump who indicated that the Israeli military redeployment will be discussed.
Before the meeting, the two presidents answered the correspondents’ questions, tackling mainly the Framework Agreement reached between the Lebanese authorities and the Zionist enemy.
Aoun affirmed that the implementation of the Agreement would continue till “ending the state of hostility with Israel”, claiming that the Constitution in Lebanon grants the President exclusively the powers in this regard.
The Israeli withdrawal from South Lebanon was not raised by the two presidents, which confirms the doubts regarding the feasibility of the meeting.
However, Trump said that he talked with Hezbollah and would talk again “if Aoun wants that”. The US president also said that the Syrian interim President Ahmad Al-Sharaa fought Hezbollah for a long time and unified Syria, adding: “I want Aoun to do the same in Lebanon.”
